About
Hello there. Thank you for dropping by. I hope all’s well and wonderful with you.
My name’s Claire Burlington (Taylor in civvies) and I’m a writer/performer based in London.
My favourite kind of theatre is simultaneously gentle and ferocious. I’m especially interested in creating plays inspired by historical figures and comedy that stems from the traditions of music hall. I’ve worked at a range of venues from Theatre Peckham to the Royal Opera House but have a particular fondness for unconventional performance spaces. Me and my work have very kindly been described as ‘exceptionally gifted’ (Three Weeks) and ‘absolutely phenomenal’ (Fringe Review).
I’ve usually mixed theatre with other work and, over the years, I’ve been an English teacher on Oxford Street, an usher at the Royal Court, a crossword compiler, a magazine sub-editor, a copywriter, a radio announcer and a script editor on EastEnders.
Many years ago, I read archaeology and anthropology at Trinity College, Cambridge and spent a vast amount of time in the theatre. In my late 20s, I decided to go to drama school and had an unforgettable and invaluable year completing the postgraduate acting course at East 15.
I’m unashamed to say that I’m a sentimental old goat and I am a huge fan of theatre that is – like life – enlightening, hilarious, cryptic and heart-rending all at once.
