The past, crystalised
Posted in Uncategorized on May 15th, 2010 by Claire Burlington – 4 CommentsI’m taking a wee pause from the comedy and cabaret gigging for the next few weeks, so here’s a little mildly amusing something to tide you over.
Many years ago, on the day before my 18th birthday, I took part in that fantastic gameshow of gameshows, The Crystal Maze. If you never saw it (and if you didn’t, what were you doing in the early 90s?), it consisted of teams of six strangers playing crazy games under the guidance of the magnificent Richard O’Brien. The set, featuring four different fantasy zones, was built in an aircraft hangar in Epping and it was basically the coolest thing on the telly back then. When we filmed our episode – which was just the best fun – we were told to try and make it exciting, keep up a running commentary and to try not to swear. Being an enthusiastic lass, and always eager to please, I did my best to do all three. A few weeks ago, a friend alerted me to the fact that a clip of my younger self battling for a crystal had been posted on YouTube. It’s quite funny, quite sweet and – just for the record – I was playing!

EDIT: That link no longer works, but the miraculous John Kirk (thanks, John!) has somehow managed to track down both of my games…
